Nusrat Jahan Chowdhury, an American citizen of Bangladeshi descent, has been nominated as a federal judge in the United States. News BBC

 

She will be the first female Muslim-American federal judge to  appointed.

 

A White House statement said that President Joe Biden had made the nomination.

 

One of President Biden’s goals in nominating new judges was to diversify the American judiciary.

 

 

If the presidential nomination  passed in the upper house of the US Senate, Nusrat Jahan Chowdhury will preside over the trial in the Federal Court of New York State.

 

 

The White House said in a statement that the president had nominated eight people as

federal judges, all of whom were exceptionally qualified, experienced and committed to the

rule of law and the constitution.

 

Who is this Nusrat Jahan Chowdhury?

 

A brief introduction to Nusrat Jahan Chowdhury  given in the White House statement.

 

It states that Ms. Chowdhury served as the Legal Director of the American Civil Liberties Union in Illinois until 2020 so.

 

He also held various positions in the American Civil Rights Union in New York from 2006 to

2020. Most recently, he was the Deputy Director of the Racial Justice Program from 2016 to

2020 so.

 

Ms. Chowdhury also served as the Senior Staff Attorney of the Racial Justice Program from 2016 to 2017.

 

Nusrat Jahan Chowdhury attended Yale Law School, Princeton School of Public and

International Affairs, and Columbia University in the United States.

 

The White House said in a statement that diversity in the US judiciary is one of the biggest

assets of the United States.

 

President Biden  committed to this diversity, and those nominated at this stage are a

continuation of President Biden’s commitment.

 

In the last one year since President Biden came to power, 63 judges have  nominated

in 13 terms.
