Semaglutide is a familiar name to many people who seek treatment for type 2 diabetes. But this drug has been applied in higher doses in this weight loss trial.

These drugs work by controlling the process of hunger in the body. After a full meal, the body secretes a hormone called GLP1, which makes the body feel exactly that hormone. As a result, I always feel full.

Some of the participants in the trial were given this drug and some were given injections of non-drug fluids. All of them are given the same advice about changing their diet and lifestyle.

The results of the trial were published in the New England Journal of Medicine, which found that people taking semaglutide lost an average of 15 kg. And those who were not given medicine lost an average of 2.8 kg.

Thirty-two percent of those given the drug were able to lose one-fifth of their weight. But there was no change in the weight of less than 2 percent of those who were given counterfeit drugs.
‘New Era’
Rachel Butterham, a professor at University College in the UK, a member of the research team, told the BBC News website:

“I have been researching the problem of obesity for the last 20 years. So far no treatment has been effective in reducing obesity beyond the control of food intake through surgery in the only digestive tract.”

Weight loss will be followed by fatigue and constant tiredness, he says.

The semaglutide drug is now being submitted to the Drug Control Authority for approval.

How to lose weight

Professor Butterham says the drug will only be approved for use in specialized clinics treating obesity at an early stage. It will not be released in the market for pouring use.

The reason, he says, is that it has the potential for some side effects, such as nausea, diarrhea, vomiting and constipation. They will also conduct a five-year study to see if the weight loss using these drugs will be sustained in the long run.

Professor Sir Stephen O’Reilly, a scientist at the University of Cambridge, says: “The amount of weight loss that has been achieved using this drug has proven to be more effective than any of the current drugs licensed to reduce obesity.

Semaglutide is going to open a new horizon for future drug discovery for the treatment of obesity. Scientists will now be able to come up with similar drugs to lose weight that will work equally well, but with no side effects. ”

However, the nutritionist said. Duane Mailer says the opportunity to use effective medications to treat those with big weight problems is certainly good news.
